The Southern California Steelers, a professional minor league football team, will hold tryouts at Heritage Park, 4298 Chino Ave, Chino, CA 91710 this Saturday April 25 @ 9:30AM.
Out of the twenty-six teams in the Labelle Community Football League- Western Conference last season, the Steelers were one of 12 teams to reach the playoffs, with a record of 8-4. This year, the team is looking forward to getting back into championship form, and they are searching for assistance in doing so.
The Steelers are looking for serious players to fill every position, and tryouts will be open to anyone who wishes to participate.
"Anyone can try out. Some football experience is preferred, as we're not trying to teach everything from the floor up," says Head Coach Ryland Huyghue. "If you have good athletic size and ability, we can work with you, but some previous high school or college experience is helpful."
Tryouts will include some pro-agility skills, individual evaluations, and one-on-one drills. Per Coach Huyghue, “those trying out will participate in drills very much like the ones they would face in any regular combine. All athletes will work out both as a group and in individual position groups. Then, we’ll transition to one-on-one drills, which will be competitions between backs and receivers."
Some of the players from the league, have actually been fortunate enough to advance and play beyond the minor league level.
If you think you've got what it takes, and want to try out, registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. There will be no tryout fee. Please come dressed and ready to play. Suggested wear consists of, an athletic shirt and shorts and cleats.
The Steelers are based in Corona, California, with home games played at the new Eleanor Roosevelt High School stadium.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Head Coach Ryland Huyghue at (909) 260-7782. You can also check out the team's Web site at www.scsteelers.com.
